Unit 1: Habitats and Homes; Lesson 2: What Is A Map?What Is A MapWe found a great game called STORY MAPS in Peggy Kaye's book "Games for Writing." On a large sheet of paper, your child designs a map of an imaginary neighborhood (or amusement park, or shopping mall, or whatever). Use tiny toys for characters to populate the neighborhood, or make them from paper. Then, your child can make up a story about the characters and the neighborhood and dictate it to you or if she can write well enough, she can write it herself. This is a fun way to do more with maps and incorporate Language Arts as well.
