Calling All Peak with Books Homeschoolers

We have recently started using Peak with Books with our 4yo son. The guide calls for one book a week, but he is finishing the suggested activities for one book a day.

I think that's partially because so many of the activities in this level call for additional books to which we have no access, group activities, or supplies that we are unable to obtain in Mexico.

Our son also finds the level of the books to be beneath him....any suggestions?

I am having the same issue and we have access to most of the books at our library. I think that because the curriculum is designed for a classroom, each activity would take quite a bit longer when you take into consideration you would be getting input from a lot of children. So what takes my son 5 minutes to answer, would probably take a classroom a half hour. As of right now, since it is preschool, I'm not really worrying about it too much and we just do the curriculum a few days a week, read the featured book, listen to the songs, and do the finger play everyday and then I have other things I do with him on other days like lacing cards, memory games, exploring outside, etc.

I guess what I have to remember is that he is still being exposed to all the concepts and ideas, even if he does not have the benefit of the extra content and group participation. He's almost finished now (4 books to go), and I think I will order the next curriculum level shortly.

Thanks for the input!

I started teaching my 4.5 year old daughter with the 5-7 curriculum. She already knows how to read and I got the general impression that it (the Peak With Books curriculum) would not be challenging enough for her. Oddly enough, now, I am considering supplementing with it. She loves to read and I figure worst-case scenario I can use it with my son when he is ready (he is 16 mos.)

Also, if you're interested in stretching out the activities, maybe you could look for some things online. For instance, right now my daughter and I are working on weather and we've looked at weather phenomenon online on BrainPopJr., read extra books, practiced handwriting using weather words - essentially, I do a lot of supplementing based on her interests. It is extra work but I let her interest lead me. And the 5-7 curriculum is not for readers only, so if your son is not yet reading or writing you'll be able to work on those with him without feeling too advanced.

Marla, How did this end up working out for you? I just ordered the preschool program, and I am anxious to see how my daughter does with it. It has been awhile since you posted, so I am hoping you are an old pro at this by now and can share anything you have learned along the way! Thank you, Kateri
